Meroon Kekovath

Age
45
Gender
Female
Height
4'10"
Build
Short and curvy
Species
Triton (5E)

First Impressions

Small and fierce, Meroon is a cleric specializing in fighting vampires. She tends to wear heavy armor. If you get her out of it, she has a curvy build. She is 45 years old, but because Tritons age at a different rate than humans, she appear in her early 30s. Reference images here
As a Triton (a race of elf-like creatures originally from the Elemental Plane of Water), Meroon has blue, scaly skin, and kelp-green hair, which she tends to wear loose. She has fin-like spines on her forearms, legs, and head, and has gills on her neck that allow her to breath underwater. She has slightly webbed toes and never wears shoes when she can help it, and her natural Triton resilience allows her to travel through the elements without them.
Meroon speaks with a Barovian accent (which is the D&D equivalent of an eastern European accent). After years of being trapped there and fighting for her life, she does not trust others easily. She is always armed with some kind of weapon, either physical or magical, and she carries a pearl of power with her, a memento of her elder sister.

Info

Meroon is a Triton Tempest Cleric who was trapped in the land of Barovia for 30 years after her adventuring party was defeated by the vampire lord Count Strahd von Zarovich. She devoted herself to a Barovian deity, the Morninglord, to gain the power to fight vampires and keep anyone else around her from dying. Finally, she joined a new party and was able to defeat Strahd and return to Faerun.

Abilities & Inventory

As a Tempest Cleric, Meroon is able to cast spells that have to do with healing, sunlight, and storm. She prepares Revivify every day, just in case.
As a Triton, Meroon has a resistance to cold, the ability to breath underwater, and the ability to see in the dark. She can make aquatic creatures understand her to a limited degree (though she cannot understand them in return), and the innate abilities of her species allows her to manipulate wind and water to a limited degree.
Inventory: A warhammer, an enchanted Blood Spear, mithral scale mail, a shield, an enchanted pearl of power, a greatsword with a silver dragon hilt, a holy symbol.

History:

Long version of her history here (contains spoilers for Curse of Strahd)

TL;DR/spoiler light version

Meroon left her home in the ocean to adventure with her older sister. Their adventuring party was transported to Barovia, where the party was (seemingly) all killed except for Meroon. She was trapped there for 30 years, during which time she became a cleric of the Morninglord. Meroon joined a new party, had to confront some of her old allies, and eventually was able to defeat Strahd. She discovered that her sister had been taken as a bride of Strahd and turned into a vampire, but died when Strahd's curse was broken. Meroon, refusing to accept the loss, preserved her body and resolved to become a powerful enough cleric to revive her and the other fallen party members.

Personality:
Meroon is a woman who has been shaped by hardship and loss. She is Good-aligned, but that doesn't mean she is nice. She is angry and stubborn, unwilling to lose anyone else close to her. Years hiding in the rivers of Barovia has reordered her priorities, and the Triton sense of manner and decorum have been completely discarded. Will she heal you and keep you alive (provided you aren't evil)? Yes. Will she have any kind of bedside manner? No, her 'healing word' is likely to be, "You'd better not fucking die on my watch." Charisma is not a stat she has bothered with in a long while.

When it comes to a battle, she has become pretty fearless, charging in and attacking headfirst. In her first battle with her new party, she ran straight into a pack of wolves, telling her Dragonborn party member (who was fully two heads taller than her) to stay behind her. She learned to fight from a protection-style paladin, and she doesn't let the fact that she's a 4'10" cleric stop her. She is willing to put herself in harm's way in every fight to keep her allies and any civilians safe. Meroon doesn't just carry the shield; she is one.

That isn't to say she can't be vulnerable. Though she tries to hide it under her fury, she cares deeply for people in general and her party especially. When she was forced to fight her undead former party member/crush, she broke down, crying and begging him to stop rather than turning her weapons on him. The scared teenager who first came to Barovia is still there under all of the rage at the world.

Living in a world that is run by super-powerful evil entities, Meroon has had to compromise her values. Tritons typically have a black and white view of the world. Living in Barovia has taught Meroon the many vast shades of grey. A previously Lawful Good alignment has shifted to Neutral Good; while Meroon isn't willing to do anything she considers "Evil", she has on occasion had to allow evil to continue around her in pursuit of her end goal of defeating the Big Bad. One example of this was her party's alliance with Nicolai Wachter, an evil wizard who wanted vengeance on Strahd because of a past betrayal. Meroon hated the alliance on principle, but had to stomach it to have a chance of defeating the Count. When offered power directly from evil entities at the Amber Temple, she refused, and she similarly refused to aid the Lich King of the Amber Temple by using her cleric magic to restore his sanity, even though that would have given the party access to all of the lost knowledge in his library.

Because of her experiences in Barovia, Meroon hates vampires. She considers them to be cursed creatures, tainted by the dark powers of an evil god. The humans who willingly serve them are met with pity and scorn, depending on their level of agency.

Despite being a cleric, Meroon doesn't feel a deep, personal tie to her previous deity the Morninglord. The Morninglord was not the god of her people, but he was the only "good" option in Barovia. Their deity-cleric relationship was one of mutual need; Meroon needed the power of light to defeat her vampire foes, and the Morninglord wanted Strahd vanquished. She will be angry to lose her divine magic, but the loss of connection to the deity himself will not be devastating to her. She is more than willing to form a pact with a new god in order to have the power she needs to protect others.

Meroon left home when she was young and hasn't been able to return, so she has a very idealized and nostalgic idea of the Tritons and their mission. Most Tritons have a mindset that they are great protectors and that the surface dwellers would suffer without them, and Meroon has this Triton pride untempered by witnessing the flaws of her society.

Inventory:
1 war hammer
1 set of mythril scale mail
1 shield
1 Pearl of Power (which will just be an ordinary pearl when she arrives in Concord)
1 set of basic traveler's clothes
1 holy symbol
1 basic explorer's pack

Name two short term goals and one long term goal you have for your character in this game: Meroon's first short term goal will be to regain her healing magic. She needs the reassurance that if someone gets hurt, she can fix it.

Her second short term goal will be to find a new party; she knows a single adventurer doesn't get far, and she never wants to go back to the isolation she felt when her first party died.

Her long term goal is to help heal the broken world. Because in spite of how jaded she has become, there is still the fundamental need to protect the world from evil and ensure that people can live safely.
